Marcelo Neves has worked in technology since his early teens, and taught himself programming and English before university. He holds a BA in Systems Analysis with honours from PUC-Campinas and an MSc in Data Mining and Data Warehousing from London Metropolitan University.

At Banco do Brasil (2005–2007) he was a systems analyst on a one-year programme that moved municipal services tax (ISS) payments for 170 city councils in São Paulo state and 510 branches from paper and post to a digital process. Errors fell by 30% and turnaround from 28 days to seven or fewer. He did the business analysis and project management, and led 19 people in a team of 20, including seven of its eight developers.

From 2010 to 2012 he was a systems analyst at Chambers Technology Support (CTS) in London, building databases and web applications for barristers' chambers and law firms, before founding Kazap. Across his career he has worked in banking, finance, law, manufacturing, media and entertainment, hospitality, insurance, start-ups, government, charities and NGOs, logistics and property. He also advised the founder of a Brazilian fintech early on.

Marcelo Neves has working knowledge of UK, EU and Brazilian business regulation, including the remit of the ICO, the CMA and Ofcom. He speaks English, Portuguese and conversational Spanish, and is a British, Portuguese and Brazilian national.
